The prompt (topic) for the example essay is a product that says something about its purchaser. Students should convince the reader that the product illustrates the purchaser. Select a familiar topic. For example, an expensive sports car says something different about the purchaser than a compact, fuel-efficient car.
After choosing a topic for the example essay, follow the eight steps of the writing process, including prewriting, focusing, organizing, and outlining and drafting a version for peer review. After receiving peer review comments, revise, edit, and proofread the essay before submitting it to the instructor for evaluation.
